Lucknow - The Landmark city for me
20th December ,2008.
I decided to travel on a rickshaw from Charbagh to Kaiserbagh to catch the bus on my way home.Little did I realize that the city I am living in has been a big contributor for few of the landmark decisions I have taken in life.
1) Year 1993 --> First time came to a city nearing the age of 10 without parents.Was here to give some science competition with an uncleji whom I had never met before.Got a rank of 138 among some 3600 students.
My first brush with the city of Nawabs.I guess I stayed in one of the hotels between Charbagh and Kaiserbagh and saw shops that sell guns.That was just amazing and I was able to locate the shops 10 days back as well.15 years back,there were only 2-3 of them.Today , there might be atleast 10-15 in that section.
2) Year 1994 -->This time came with Papa and was able to complete all the fancy locations to be visited.Inspite of having lived here now for 6 months, I am yet to visit those places.Visited Imambada,Bhool Bhulaiya,Lucknow Zoo and Aminabad.Papa has good habit of making us walk wherever we go.That helps in absorbing the things happening around ,but might not be comfortable when it tends a bit long :)
I also saw the Computerized reservation system and how reservations happened at the Lucknow Station.And yeah, I did came for a competition and secured some 90 rank among 5k students.Got an Oxford mini-dictionary as a prize.It was worth it.
3) Year 2000 --> Got 2490 rank in the UP state Engg. Test.Decided that taking Private college was not worth it.Remember the half dozen banana I had on return journey :)It was necessary owing to the stomach trouble I had.
4)Year 2001 --> Got 1490 rank and decided to join KNIT Sultanpur despite Papa telling to join an NIT.I don't know what power in the world made me take such a decision.But well I did take it and don't rue it.
Came later in the year along with Rajeev bhaiya and did decently well in JEE Prelims,something that was not to have a fruitful end.
5)Year 2002 --> Came here for JEE Mains and when it mattered the most to give my best shot, I faltered and that dashed all my dreams.The whole journey back to Sultanpur was something of contemplation of the decisions I have taken in life.Some have reaped well.Others haven't.
6)Year 2004 --> Forgot the JEE,CAT was the in-thing to remove all the paaps of the past.Was doing well in the mocks but then there are other stories for the day it matters.I think I am unable to do Quants when I am Lucknow.Just an observation when I see it now as well.
7)Year 2008 --> I dreamt of being into IIML , the only IIM whose story I read like anything in the iimhell blog. Somehow other IIM bloggers haven't created the scene of the starting few months of there life in B-school as this one.This was the journey I wanted to follow.Its already 2 terms and yes life is what was described in that blog.In one word it is 'HELL'.But I enjoy the Hell I am in and just hope to take some correct decisions this time around.
